How to play Pixel Picross
How to play
Pixel Picross is a cozy little logic puzzle — a 10×10 grid hides a secret pixel-art picture, and the numbers along the top and left edge are your only clues. Each number tells you the length of a consecutive run of filled squares in that row or column, and the order of the numbers matches the order of the runs. Fill in the squares that must be colored and mark the squares that must stay empty with an X, and little by little a picture emerges. There is no guessing involved: every puzzle has exactly one solution that pure logic can find. Finish the whole grid correctly and the picture pops out in full color.
Controls
- Tap / click a square to fill it in the current mode — tap it again to clear it.
- Right-click a square to mark it with an X directly (desktop). On touch screens, use the ❌ Mark X button to switch modes.
- Use the 💡 Hint errors toggle to turn the mistake highlight on or off while you play.
- Pick a different puzzle any time with the 💗 Heart, 🍄 Mushroom and 🐱 Cat buttons.
Tips
Start with the biggest numbers — a clue of 8 or more on a 10-wide grid forces the middle squares to be filled no matter where the run sits, so fill those in first. Whenever a clue is satisfied, mark the rest of that row or column with Xs so you don't waste time there. Overlaps are your best friend: for a clue like "4 3", imagine the run pushed fully left, then fully right — the squares covered in both positions are guaranteed fills. Correctly completed rows and columns turn their clues green, so chase those green lights to see your progress.
Scoring
There is no score in Pixel Picross — your badge of honor is the clock. The timer starts on your first move and stops the moment the picture is revealed, so replay your favorite picture to beat your own time. Filling a square that doesn't belong to the picture adds a mistake to the counter, so a zero-mistake solve is the true mark of a Picross master.
