How to play
Key Quest is a top-down maze adventure with one simple goal: collect every golden key, then slip out through the exit. Each level drops you into a freshly generated maze patrolled by red guards who walk their own routes. The exit door stays locked until the last key is picked up β watch for it to glow green, then make your escape. If a guard touches you, you lose a life and restart the maze from the entrance (your collected keys stay collected). You have 3 lives per run; lose them all and it's game over. Clear a level and the next maze is bigger, hides more keys, and sends out faster guards.
Controls
- Keyboard: use the arrow keys or WASD to move one tile at a time. Holding a key keeps you walking; the most recently pressed direction wins.
- Swipe: swipe up, down, left, or right on the game area to step that way β perfect for phones and tablets.
- D-pad: tap the on-screen arrow buttons below the maze; press and hold to keep moving.
- Press Start Quest to begin, Next Level to continue, and Space / Enter also starts the game.
Tips
- Plan your route before moving: grab the keys farthest from the exit first so your final dash is short.
- Guards wander randomly, so never assume a corridor is safe β peek around corners and wait for a guard to pass.
- After getting caught you get a couple of seconds of protection (your explorer blinks) β use them to reposition.
- The exit is always the tile farthest from your starting corner; learn the maze shape and you'll escape faster.
- Later levels get crowded, so slow down near guards β one careful step beats a panicked sprint into their path.
Scoring
Each key is worth 100 points, and clearing a level adds a bonus of 100 Γ your level number β level 3 pays 300, level 5 pays 500, and so on. There is no timer, so patience is free: a cautious run with every key beats a fast run that ends in a guard's arms. Your best score is saved in your browser.
