How to play Word Connections
How to play
Word Connections is a brain-teasing word puzzle. Sixteen word tiles hide four secret groups of four โ maybe four pizza toppings, four computer keys, or four things that fly. Tap up to four tiles that belong together, then press Submit. Solve a group and it flies off the board in a burst of color (yellow is easiest, purple is trickiest). A wrong guess costs one of your four mistakes; lose all four and the game ends, revealing the answers. Find all four groups to win!
Controls
Tap or click a tile to select it (selected tiles turn orange); tap again to unselect, up to four at a time. Press Enter or Submit to check your guess, S or Shuffle to mix the tiles, and D or Deselect to clear your picks. Everything works with a mouse, keyboard, or touch screen โ great on phones and tablets.
Tips
Start with the most obvious group โ clearing four tiles makes the rest much easier. Watch out for red herrings: words like ROCK or ORANGE could fit two groups. An "one away!" message means three of your four picks form a real group โ swap just one word and try again. When the board feels scrambled, hit Shuffle: seeing the words in a new arrangement often makes a hidden group jump out. A fresh puzzle loads every game, so no two rounds are alike.
Scoring
You start with 1,200 points and every mistake costs 150. A perfect game keeps all 1,200 and earns a 200-point no-mistake bonus, for a maximum of 1,400. Your best score is saved on your device, and eight different puzzles rotate randomly โ each with one yellow, one green, one blue, and one purple group.
