♟️ Chess Checkmate
One move. That's all you get — make it checkmate!
How to play Chess Checkmate
How to play
Chess Checkmate is a tactics gym built from 8 original puzzles, ordered from gentle to genuinely tricky. Every position has exactly one winning move: you play White, and your job is to deliver checkmate in a single move. Click (or tap) one of your pieces to select it — its legal destinations light up — then click the square you want it to move to. If the move is legal but doesn't mate, the board resets and you try again; if it's not even legal, the game tells you why. There are no clocks forcing you, but faster solves earn bigger speed bonuses.
Controls
- Mouse / touch: tap a white piece to select it, then tap a highlighted square to move. Tap the piece again to deselect.
- Hint button: you get 3 hints for the whole run. The first highlights the piece that mates, the second also marks its target square, and the third spells out the move. Each hint costs 25 points.
- Reset button: restores the current puzzle if you want a fresh look.
Tips
- Start by asking where the black king can run. If its escape squares are covered or blocked by its own pieces, the mate is usually one check away.
- Beware the decoys! A flashy check that lets the king slip out is the classic trap — the quiet move is often the killer.
- Knights are smothering specialists: a king boxed in by its own pieces can't run from a knight check.
Scoring
Each solved puzzle is worth 100 points plus a speed bonus of up to 120 (faster = bigger), minus 25 per hint used on that puzzle, with a 25-point floor so a solved puzzle always pays. Your best total is saved on this device. Can you clear all 8 without a single hint?
