How to play Cannon Cove
The mission
You are the gunner of a small coastal fort, and pirate ships keep sailing past through the cove. Your job is to sink as many as you can with only ten cannonballs. Each ship that crosses the water is a moving target: it sails left or right at its own speed, bobbing on the waves, and you must judge the arc of your cannonball to land a hit. Treasure barrels also drift by on the current — smash one with a cannonball for a juicy bonus. When your ten shots are gone, your final score is tallied.
Controls
Use the Up and Down arrow keys to raise and lower the cannon barrel between 15 and 75 degrees, and press Space to fire. Prefer touch? Tap the angle buttons under the game and hit the big orange FIRE button. The current angle is always shown between the buttons, so you can dial in your favorite firing solution and adjust by feel.
Leading your target
The cannonball flies in a real arc, pulled down by gravity, and the ships never stop moving — so aiming directly at a ship will miss. Instead, aim at the patch of water where the ship is going to be when the ball lands. Faster ships need more lead. A low angle gives a flat, fast shot that reaches far quickly; a high angle lobs the ball high and drops it steeply, which is handy for close targets. Fire a ranging shot early to learn the feel, then correct.
Tips
Watch each ship for a second before firing to learn its speed and direction — most captains hold a steady course. Treasure barrels drift slowly, so they are easier targets and worth chasing for the bonus. Because you only have ten shots, never fire blindly: a miss still costs you a cannonball, so make every shot a considered one. If a ship is about to sail off-screen, let it go and wait for the next.
Scoring
Sinking a pirate ship earns 100 points, and smashing a treasure barrel earns 150 points. Your score, remaining shots, and ships sunk are tracked above the game. There is no timer, so take your time on each shot — the perfect ten-for-ten run is the ultimate bragging right in Cannon Cove.
